I'd actually done this certification before at a world renowned school in Central America but I decided to do it again as I have issues with equalisation. I got so much more out of this course taught by our amazing instructor Heiko. We got two full days of training in which we covered so much including 4 practical sessions, 2 in the pool and 2 in the open water. I loved getting to practice things I was never shown on my first course, like a static breath hold and an introduction to the dynamic discipline. Heiko was extremely knowledgable, patient and supportive. I really felt like we each got such a tailored training. He treated us each as individuals and adjusted the training to our needs and abilities. It really helped us get the most out of every dive and have the best experience. Course is very comprehensive (good mix of theory with lots of practice), instructors (Kirill & Tim) very professional & knowledgeable and always happy to give feedback & tips.
Manta trip brought us to very different spots, all great, with mantas & healthy reefs (Nusa Penida reefs were better than expected, compared to other spots around Bali & Lombok).

Pretty rough ride to Manta Point (choppy waters!
Recommend medicating to prevent seasickness.

There are a lot of boats and a lot of people in the water. If you stay in the crowd, it's chaos! Pretty much guaranteed to get kicked in the face.

We swam away from the crowd, stayed at the edge (entrance/exit) and saw so many Manta rays!!
Guessing around 50...!!! Stopped counting after 20. 👏👏👏

Majestic, beautiful creatures.
Definitely recommend.

The waters are choppy and chilly.
So be prepared.
And enjoy the show!

My 13 year old son and I did the SSI Level I Freediving course with Freedive Nusa, and the team... read moreMy 13 year old son and I did the SSI Level I Freediving course with Freedive Nusa, and the team was as professional as I’ve seen. Our instructor, Heiko, and Arthur (who joined to help in some of the ocean sessions) knew their stuff and upheld the highest of standards throughout. I felt extremely comfortable leaving my son in their hands. Heiko taught us the ins and outs of freediving and balanced it with a lot of practical sessions in the ocean (that was right across the street).
Nusa Penida’s tourism has only recently picked up and consequently it has that perfect balance of just the right amount of infrastructure (restaurants, hotels/homestays, scooter rentals, etc) without all the unfortunate destruction that tourism often brings. We saw some of the most beautiful, untouched coral reefs that I’ve seen around the world.
I highly recommend anyone that’s comfortable in the water to take a couple of days to take “the next step in”, or at least join them on a day trip. Good, good stuff! read less
